About – SOT Advisory

The name “SOT Advisory” is new. But it is built atop decades of expertise & accomplishments in banking, tech and investment management.

Steve Stanton is the founder of SOT Advisory, but he is not alone. We have excellent “hands on” leaders in Financial Control, Operations, AML / KYC, Risk, and Technology including full stack development, API integrations, and infrastructure technology.

Steve returned to USA in 2022 after 15 years overseas in Hong Kong and Dubai. He came back to manage nearly 100 people as Director of Strategy, Ops & Tech with Five Star Bank in New York.

Five Star exited “Banking as a Service” in late 2024, but Steve did not. Contact SOT Advisory if you want to launch BaaS at your Bank.

Prior consulting experience:

Deep Water Management supported Hong Kong & Asia startups since 2017 via interim COO/CEO, capital raising & business planning services.
Steve co-founded Montgomery Woodrow providing outsourced CFO & Credit services across UAE in 2009.
SWS Consulting was established in 2003 to help smaller public companies achieve “year one” SOX compliance.
Steve began his career as a Senior tax Associate at a global top 5 accounting firm before earning an MBA at NYU Stern

Steve’s banking experience includes regional chief admin & risk officer roles plus global & regional responsibilities for internal controls, KRI’s and “people stuff” (training, workshops, events, town halls) for Morgan Stanley in NYC and Hong Kong.

Steve spent several years in asset management and consulting before joining Morgan Stanley. He went on to head Finance & Administration for North American offices of an expanding European bank before the 2008 financial crisis.

He then moved UAE to head CFO projects and firm-wide operations for a regional investment bank before launching a consultancy serving 6 of the 7 Emirates. In 2010, he rejoined Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong with coverage of the Asia Pacific region. Six years later he jumped into the Hong Kong startup sector as a “hands on” leader of a FoodTech startup, a loyalty app, and blockchain fintech.
