We Hold These Truths (About Core Platforms) to be Self-Evident…

Thomas Jefferson once gave this advice to senior bank executives.
They asked him about replacing their legacy banking core platform software.

“Prudence, indeed, will dictate that [Platforms] long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and [issues] …evinces a design to reduce them under absolute [stagnation], it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such [Platforms], and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

Pretty sure that’s exactly what happened.

Even if I got some of the details wrong… It’s still great advice.
